Justin Scally was named Director of Louisville Metro Animal Services by Mayor Greg Fischer and took over the second week of August.  Prior to arriving in Louisville, Justin was the interim leader of disaster services for the Humane Society of the United States. Scally also has supervised and managed the agency’s national effort to combat illegal animal operations and has conducted investigations in conjunction with local law enforcement agencies and deployed rescue teams to save dogs being bred in puppy mills.

  • Recently, a temporary shelter was opened on Newburg Road next to the Animal House Adoption Center to help stop the spread of disease.  First, explain why the facility is needed and bring us up to date on the current situation.

  • What are some of the steps you are taking to educate the public?
  • You have two vaccination clinics planned for October.  When and where are they going to be held?
  • Adoptions are the key to shelter success.   How can someone adopt?
  • LMAS has some great partnerships with rescue groups and fosters.  How do they help the big picture of the organization?
  • There are more facets to LMAS than the Manslick facility,the temporary shelter and Animal House Adoption Center.  Talk about the animal control officers and the agencies commitment to public safety.
